Beef Tallow Trend Say NO

Beef Tallow Trend St. Charles, MO

Beef Tallow is getting a lot of attention lately so let’s break down the truths about Beef Tallow and why it’s not the magic cure all.

Beef Tallow False Claims

A good moisturizer for dry skin.

It’s full of vitamins.

It can help clear acne.

The people of ancient times used it so it must be good.

While BT might be “natural”, it has a comedogenic rating of two out of five, meaning it has a 40% chance of clogging your pores and leading to breakouts, blackheads, and dullness. It is nutrient dense with fatty acids like stearic acid, palmitic acid and oleic acid, these can be problematic and cause skin irritation.

A good moisturizer for dry skin. Tallow is only useful if you want to occlude a specific part of your body (hands ﹠ feet) to seal in your body’s own naturally produced moisture. Tallow does not offer any hydrating benefits

It’s full of vitamins. NO! Once beef tallow is rendered and purified (if done properly), you have lost most if not all of the vitamins, so you’re left with essentially (something similar to Vaseline).

It can help clear acne. For those with more alkaline (less acid) pH skin, beef tallow is a bad choice. Due to it’s occlusive nature it behaves similarly to skin slugging or vaseline.

Acne prone skin will often have an irregular water and oil content. When a lack of water (hydration) occurs, oil glands produce more oil because the body doesn’t have the ability to produce the water it lacks. This dehydrated state can cause additional breakouts.  Ingredients high in Oleic Acid (tallow) are very comedogenic. When a follicle is blocked, it can lead to trapping acne bacteria inside. Acne bacteria when not exposed to oxygen, it begins to grow. Therefore, beef tallow’s occlusive nature doesn’t give you acne, but if your skin is acne prone, this trapping is a problem.

The people of ancient times used it so it must be good. 1st Anachronistic morality is simply incompatible with current times. The people of antiquity didn’t have the knowledge we have now. People in ancient time used cosmetics and beauty products that contained highly toxic ingredients like lead, mercury, and arsenic, particularly in cultures like ancient Egypt where white lead-based makeup was very common.  So why would you take their advice?

Conclusion – Beef Tallow has nothing worthy of being called skincare.

If you are acne prone It’s time to STOP putting beef tallow on your face.

Using Tallow as your moisturizer is not a substitute for a well-rounded professionally formulated moisturizer that includes vitamins and humectants.

Beef tallow does contain about 26% palmitic acid, a saturated fatty acid that forms an occlusive layer to retain moisture.

Beef tallow is bioidentical to the sebum produced by the body, so the skin easily recognizes and absorbs it.
